This morning, over 50 LACBC staff and members took a 18-mile trip from Playa Del Rey to Downtown LA with EPA staff and Planning Commission members. The ride was hosted by Jared Blumenfield, West Coast Administrator for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This ride highlighted the soon-to-be adopted LA Bike Plan and the newly adopted Culver City Bike Plan.
The ride started at the bike bridge above Ballona Creek and headed towards the 1st stop, Linwood Howe Elementary School in Culver City.
We met with Principal Amy Anderson, kids, members of Linwood Howe Safe Routes to School Committee and other community supporters. Culver City recently passed their first bicycle and pedestrian plan, funded by a grant from DPH [UPDATE: That's the Los Angeles Department of Public Health to clarify.] and Linwood Howe Elementary recently received state Safe Routes to School funding to improve the walking and biking environment around the school, develop encouragement programs, and increase the number of students and families that walk or bicycle to Linwood Howe.
After a ride up Venice and a stroll down the 4th street bike route, we arrived at our second destination, MacArthur Park.
We were met by City of LA Councilmember Ed Reyes and City of LA Planning Commission and Metro Countywide Planner Diego Cardoso. Cardoso spoke briefly about how Metro and the City of LA are making connections between bikes and transit.
Finally, a quick ride down 7th got us into downtown and up to City Hall. This was a fun event and a great turnout!
Thanks to the EPA and our co-sponsor, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, for this successful ride!
