City of Lights First Annual Awards Dinner a Success!

First off, a warm and hearty thank you to all of the bicycle, immigrant rights, and social justice communities and volunteers that turned out for our dinner last Thursday! We honored Councilman Ed Reyes, Raul Añorve, IDEPSCA Executive Director, and two day laborer center coordinators, Jose Veliz and Ernesto Vázquez for their hard work and contributions to keeping City of Lights vibrant and equitable. What a great turnout-we had roughly 80 in attendance, lovely food, courtesy of Advantage Catering, large Silent and Live Auctions and raised quite a bit of money! This is truly important in order to keep City of Lights sustainable, as well as retaining the ability to keep focused on our work on the ground in the community, based off of their needs.
The Dinner benefited City of Lights, our unique program that outreaches to Latino cyclists. Our programs include Spanish language safety education and repair classes at two day laborer centers in Central LA: CARECEN and IDEPSCA. We are a grassroots, primarily volunteer driven collective that is passionate about bridging the large immigrant cyclist community with the mainstream cyclist community.
