LACBC’s Volunteer Mixer – A Successful Kickoff
August 12, 2010 at 2:41 pm | Posted in Get Involved, LACBC Events | 1 CommentTags: LACBC Social, Volunteer Mixer
Our first LACBC Volunteer Mixer was a great success. We had a turnout of about 15 people.
The mixer started off with an informative introduction of the Bike Plan resulting in a lively discussion on bike facilities and the upcoming Mayoral Bike Summit. Volunteers had the opportunity to look through the Bike Plan maps and policy documents. For the second hour of the mixer, the group split up to tackle various tasks. In one room, volunteers helped out with phone banking for membership renewals. Not only did volunteers make the calls that resulted in several membership renewals, but they helped to organize a system for follow-up calls. Another group brainstormed suggestions for LACBC to start a streetside outreach initiative via monthly bike and pedestrian pit stops. The hope with the pitstop is to connect directly with recreational and commuting cyclists and provide them with snacks and a bit of respite from the traffic while hearing their concerns about riding and walking the streets of LA. Some folks in the group multitasked by stuffing Letters of Appeal into envelopes as they continued to talk about bikes.
In response to positive feedback on LACBC’s first mixer, we will maintain the event as a social forum and continue to provide healthy homemade snacks.
Our goal is to provide a friendly atmosphere in which to meet others who wish to learn about and be involved in their bike communities. LACBC hopes you will join us each month as we highlight particular projects and campaigns and provide you with the opportunity to get involved, share your ideas and meet others in the community who care about a healthy and safe LA.
Send us your suggestions for discussion topics and opportunities for how you’d like to get involved with LACBC to erica@la-bike.org for our next Monthly Mixer (TBD).
Thanks to all who showed up and helped make this such as success!
