LACBC, in partnership with Midnight Ridazz and Geoff McFetridge, is launching a Bicycle Awareness Ad Campaign. And we’re kicking off the campaign with a slogan contest! Enter into the contest and submit your safety slogan by May 5th!
We’ve been working with the City of Los Angeles and LAPD to produce a bicycle awareness and safety ad campaign. Ads will be placed in bus shelters and Public Amenity Kiosks (PAK) throughout the city. The goal is to help make drivers more aware of bicyclists in order to create safer streets for all.
The winning slogan will be transformed into a design by Geoff McFetridge, an internationally acclaimed graphic designer and visual artist who is also an LA cyclist, and a prize from Orange 20 Bikes will be given to the wining entry.
Remember, May 5th is the deadline, so don’t miss out. Los Angeles will soon have bicycle awareness ads throughout the city—and your idea can help make it all happen!

[...] by Damien Newton on April 23, 2010 Everyone who had a problem with the "Caution! Pass With Care" posters because they were "illegal" can rest assured that the next awareness campaign aimed at motorists, but designed by cyclists will be perfectly legal. Of course, that the LAPD, along with the LACBC and "Midnight Ridazz," is sponsoring a contest to create the poster theme that will appear in bus shelters and Public Amenity Kiosks (PAK) throughout the city. People interested in learning more about the project, or how to submit a theme for the posters, the art is being donated by Geoff McFetridge, can read more about it at the LACBC blog. [...]

Well, I’m a couple of days too late to enter the Bicycle Awareness Ad Slogan Contest, but here’s a slogan — a reminder to bicyclists — that I planned to suggest:
“BICYCLE WHILE WHITE” (viz. Driving While Black), to accompany a graphic depicting more-visible-at-night light or white clothing-wearing bicyclists compared to the almost-invisible-at-night dark clothing-wearing bicyclists I frequently see on L.A.’s streets as I walk between bus stops.

“BICYCLE WHILE BRIGHT” could be another version of the above-suggested bicycle-safety slogan!

Though I can not claim to have originated them: two great slogans would be 1) “a bicycle can take a full lane if it is necessary to ride safely CVC 21202.”
2) “You don’t see what you aren’t looking for”: watch for peds and bikes. (this is adapted from a bicycle safety ad once aired in England)
