Last week, Thursday March 25th, LA County Department of Public Works (LACDPW) hosted a meeting in East LA about the County-wide bicycle master plan. For more info on the plan itself, click here. Alta Planning and Design conducted the meeting, because they are the firm that is writing the plan. The plan is just getting started, so the meeting was an introduction to the project process as well as an opportunity for folks to write suggestions on the LA County maps. Around 20-25 folks attended, including residents, cyclists, LA County Department of Public Health folks, and advocates (including representatives from CICLE, CORBA and LACBC). A group of people from the Cityhood for East L.A. also attended.
The first round of meetings has finished, so if you missed them, please go to the master plan website, to see the maps and make comments on areas the project team needs to investigate.
The 2nd round of meetings, happening in June/July are going be very important for folks to attend, because they will be an opportunity for the public to respond to the proposals that Alta Planning and LACDPW makes. If you know any unincorporated areas, such as Lennox, Marina Del Rey, East LA, Lancaster, or know folks in the area, please let them know about the planning process and encourage them to provide input.
The plan itself is tentatively scheduled to be in final draft form around January-September 2011.
There are lots of great meeting materials, maps, ways to input on the website, so check it out and find out more.
