Pasadena Bicycle Master Plan: Let’s do more!

Last Tuesday, February 23rd, the City of Pasadena held its 4th public workshop on its draft Bicycle Master Plan, which is very close to being presented to Pasadena City Council to be passed. To learn more about the nuts and bolts of the plan as well as see maps, click here. The plan proposes a number of road diets (reduction of auto-travel lanes and/or parking to provide room for bicycle lanes), bicycle boulevards, and new and improved bicycle lanes and paths. The public workshop had a variety of people, including those who expressed that the plan did not include enough innovative or visionary treatments as well as those who were very much concerned about the bicycle boulevards not letting auto-traffic through their own street. The Pasadena Star wrote an incorrect article about how the bicycle boulevards would close off some streets.
Currently, while the bicycle master plan is still being commented on, LACBC will write comments that support the notion that the bicycle plan could still do more, although it is in general a good plan.
When the meeting to pass the plan happens though, we’re going to need a lot of cyclists there, to support the plan because there will probably be those who are not in favor of it, and we want those who are to outnumber those folks. Please be involved and show up to that meeting. We will keep you updated at more information comes online.
